Camera Bodies
Sony a7 IV – This is the main camera I use for the majority of my filming. The two main reasons I use a full frame camera are that the bigger imaging sensor allows for shallower depth of fields (blurry backgrounds), and it also has much better image quality in low-light situations.
Sony a7 CII – We always have two cameras to make sure we have a backup or so that we can get two different angles. I love how small and portable the a7 C cameras are and they’re a bit lighter when I’m holding it out for vlogging.
Lenses
Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 – A great vlogging lens since it gives a really wide angle while being small and lightweight. The f/2.8 aperture also makes it great for low light filming at night time or in dark interior spaces.
Sony 24-70mm f/4 – Most of my footage has been shot with this lens since it has such a versatile zoom range. An aperture of f/4 means it’s compact and lightweight, and the optical stabilization provides smoother handheld footage.
Sony Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 – I love this lens because it takes up hardly any room in my camera bag, but it creates such beautiful images. It’s perfect for when you want your subject to pop out of a blurry background and it’s the lens I grab for portraits.
Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 – We borrowed this lens for our trip to Africa and were so impressed with it that we got one for ourselves. Some of my favourite photos and videos were taken with this lens. And not just wildlife photos, it’s great for landscapes too!
Audio
Sony ECM-B10 – This is my all time favourite on-camera microphone. Power and audio are sent through the hot shoe mount on the camera so you never have to worry about battery life or wires to plug in. It has so many smart features and settings that you can change and the audio quality is great.
Audio Technica AT875R – This is such an amazing studio microphone for the price. The sound quality competes with professional mics that are many times more expensive. Combine it with an audio interface or an XLR adapter mounted on your camera.
Rode Wireless GO II – Wireless lavalier mics are so versatile and I love that I can have two wireless transmitters connected to a single receiver mounted on the camera. They’re incredibly small and even have built-in rechargeable batteries.
Extras
SmallRig CT-10 – A simple folding tripod to hold up my camera. It’s decent quality and doesn’t break the bank.
DJI Mini 3 – Drones are a lot of fun to fly and can get you some amazing shots that you couldn’t get otherwise. What’s great about the Mini is that it’s lighter than 250 grams which means it has far fewer restrictions and limitations compared to larger drones.
