Reason being, on March 20, 2010, we where the first people in the world to see the sunrise. And what a perfect sunrise it was, even though we where freezing our butts off.

Our hostel on the beach.

After going back to bed for a quick nap, we had a very leisurely day. I got a chance to go down to the beach after it had warmed up quite a bit, to work on my still very non-existent tan.

After a nice lunch, we then headed out onto the road towards Rotorua. However, about 40 mins into the drive we realized we had forgotten about two Belgium girls that had done an activity that morning. It was a huge miss communication between several people. We ended up driving back and luckily everyone was in good spirits so we had a laugh about it.

The rest of the day consisted of a relatively long drive so we didn’t make many pit stops, just one to this thermal pool for a nice soak.

Quite an interesting experience. The pool was hot, hot tub hot, not very deep, but you would walk around and hit patches of warmer and then colder water. As well as there was this copper colour to the water and these slimy bits of mud floating around that actually ended up dying my swimsuit this gross pink-orange colour .

To end off the evening, after we got into town we all headed out for drinks at one of the local backpacker bars for our final farewell.

The first sunrise in the world. Gisborne, New Zealand.

[2
728,810,1040,1172,1970,2116,2307,2583,2712
post-626","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-travel","tag-cool-things","tag-travel","tag-first-sunrise-in-the-world","tag-gisborne","tag-new-zealand","tag-photography","tag-rotorua","tag-sunrise","tag-thermal-hot-pools
["GET
