Well this year that was going to change as I was invited to<strong> Edinburgh, Scotland<\/strong> for their annual New Years celebration of <a title=\"Edinburgh's Hogmanay\" href=\"http:\/\/www.edinburghshogmanay.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Hogmanay<\/strong><\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Hogmanay is one of the world&#8217;s top festivals, so I could not be more excited to tell you all about it! Here are some of the many activities I took part in, and if you go next year, you will as well.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #f01899;\">Torchlight Procession<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This is the starting event for the three days of Hogmanay festivities.\u00a0Here over 35,000 people come out to watch the 8000 torch carriers march through the streets of Edinburgh.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-30790\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-6-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Hogmanay-6\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-30788\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-5-600x600.jpg\" alt=\"Hogmanay-5\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The front is led by a group of vikings wielding, literally, the largest torches I&#8217;ve ever seen. <em>(These are\u00a0legitimate\u00a0torches, the ones you can purchase are smaller &#8220;people safe&#8221; size.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-9.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-30796\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-9-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Hogmanay-9\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They are followed by the general public, aka me.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-30792\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-7-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Hogmanay-7\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-30794\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-8-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Hogmanay-8\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My fellow <strong>#blogmanay<\/strong> blogger <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thatadventurer.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hannah<\/a> managed to purchase a torch for us, they are about \u00a310 but they limit the torches to around 8000 and they do sell out, so make sure to buy your&#8217;s asap!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-30786\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-4-600x600.jpg\" alt=\"Hogmanay-4\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>More pictures with our torch, which we eventually ended up giving away to a lovely family since it&#8217;s a little bit challenging taking photos with one hand. Although, we did enjoy it for the duration of time we had it! <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-3.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"vine-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/vine.co\/v\/Owr9x5upF0P\/embed\/simple\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The precession\u00a0starts around <strong>7:00pm<\/strong> and lasts around a hour.\u00a0You start at the <strong>George IV Bridge<\/strong>, continue along <strong>Princes Street<\/strong> and end on <strong>Calton Hill <\/strong>to a giant bonfire and epic fireworks display.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-2.jpg\"><script src=\"\/\/platform.vine.co\/static\/scripts\/embed.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-30784\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-3-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Hogmanay-3\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-2.jpg\"><script src=\"\/\/platform.vine.co\/static\/scripts\/embed.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-30782\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-2-600x600.jpg\" alt=\"Hogmanay-2\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-30780\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-1-600x600.jpg\" alt=\"Hogmanay-1\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a> The whole event finishes up around <strong>9:00pm<\/strong>, perfect time to hit the pubs and kick start New Years!<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #f01899;\">New Years Eve Street Party<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This is the big deal, the main event. It starts around <strong>7:00pm<\/strong> and goes to <strong>1:00am.<\/strong> Here there are multiples stages all around Princes Street, in the gardens, and some of the surrounding areas.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-30789\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-6-21-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Hogmanay-6-2\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Some TIPS\u00a0for\u00a0ensuring a really great time:<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>It&#8217;s outside, it&#8217;s mostly likely gonna be cold, <strong>so bundle up.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Choose where you want to be<\/strong>, aka, look at the schedule and know where you want to be at midnight, because popular events and stages will fill up quickly. So plan and make your way towards that stage about 1 hour before the show (if&#8217;s it&#8217;s anytime after 10:00pm).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30795\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30795\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30795 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-9-2-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Hogmanay-9-2\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30795\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Abba cover band!!!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30787\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30787\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30787 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-5-2-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Hogmanay-5-2\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30787\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lily Allen, the headlining act to ring in the New Year.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Make friends!!<\/strong> Don&#8217;t just socialize with the people you have come with, enjoy the company of your fellow Hogmanaiers!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"vine-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/vine.co\/v\/OwF97bJZBD1\/embed\/simple\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><script src=\"\/\/platform.vine.co\/static\/scripts\/embed.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>You can bring your own alcohol<\/strong>. Yup, just make sure<strong> it&#8217;s in a plastic bottle only.\u00a0<\/strong>There is also plenty of places to buy on site, as well as food booths to soak up the alcohol.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Get your cameras ready for fireworks<\/strong>, and I mean EPIC fireworks. They go all out, so prepare yourself!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"vine-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/vine.co\/v\/OwFYh50qI3X\/embed\/simple\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><script src=\"\/\/platform.vine.co\/static\/scripts\/embed.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #f01899;\">Loony Dook<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>So after a crazy night of partying, what better way to celebrate the new year than to jump into freezing cold water? Oh, and in costume. That is the Loony Dook, basically a lot of fun for a lot of crazy people.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-3-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-30783\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-3-2-600x338.jpg\" alt=\"Hogmanay-3-2\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It takes place at\u00a0<strong>Queensferry<\/strong>\u00a0in the <strong>River Forth<\/strong>, in the shadow of the world-famous <strong>Forth Rail Bridge<\/strong>\u00a0<em>(as pictured).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Now if you are not coming down with the Flu from the night before <em>(i.e. me)\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0at around <strong>1:00pm<\/strong> you would be putting on your craziest costume, or lack of costume, and then\u00a0parading down the streets of town towards the waterfront.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-1-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-30799\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-1-4-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Hogmanay-1-4\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-30798\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-1-3-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Hogmanay-1-3\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This takes around 15 minutes, and then it&#8217;s dook time!!! From what I could see I would say the average duration of time in the water was around 1-5 minutes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30781\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30781\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-2-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30781 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heynadine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Hogmanay-2-2-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"Hogmanay-2-2\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30781\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A lot of people were far braver than me.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Afterwards, hot showers were in order and either bed, or more events! As there were plenty of other activities for the non freezing-cold-water lovers out there as well.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #f01899;\">In Conclusion<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>All in all, for my first ever New Years event celebration, I do believe I picked the very best!
