Château de Chambord

What is it about girls and princesses? I swear it is imprinted into our brains during childhood to love the idea of being a princess in a castle. That, Disney’s pretty fantastic marketing team, plus great kids movies. My favorite princesses growing up were Ariel and Belle. So, you can imagine my excitement when I found out we would be going to the château that inspired Beast’s castle.

Now the inside is nothing special but the outside is absolutely stunning. And once you climb up a few steps the views from the balcony overlooking the courtyard is truly something to behold.

Apparently the chateau was the home of the mistress to the king. Now that was one lucky woman.

Bordeaux

That evening we had an overnight stop in the town of Bordeaux, where I got to try some delicious French wine, famous from this region. In Bordeaux you can instantly notice the wonderful buildings, which were the architectural inspiration for Paris building styles.

Medieval Carcassonne

Yes, this video has not one but two very different castles. Medieval Carcassonne in the south of France is really something out of King Arthur’s legends. Now I don’t believe there is a Disney movie based on this fortress but inside there sure is a lot of love for everything medieval. Renaissance Fair anyone? Yes I have been to one of those and they are a ridiculous amount of fun.
