Vlog #1: Contiki Eastern Europe: Budapest, Hungary
One of the best parts of traveling to other countries is trying out their local cuisine. Unfortunately for me I have one pretty lame dietary requirement, I cannot have dairy. In Southeast Asia it was not a problem but in Europe I kinda suspected that it might cause me a bit of grief;Â however, I never knew to what extent. Eastern Europeans use cheese and cream in everything. Basically I have had nothing to eat here but salads, plain vegetables, meat (no sauce) and fruit bowls for dessert. While my waist line is probably going to thank me in the long run, I feel like I am sincerely missing out on a great European experience. Oh well, at least I have espresso shots!
Hero’s Square
For our first day in Budapest we started off with a short city tour of a couple key points around town.
Church of St Matthias
Hilltop Buda, where we got this magnificent view of the city! It somewhat reminds me of the planet of Naboo from Star Wars. Yes, no?
That evening it was wine tasting time! Wine tasting is always a bad idea for Nadine as she usually tastes a bit too much on an empty stomach before dinner. Now IÂ actually had video footage from this tasting; however, I have no idea where it went and therefore you only get these photos to look at. I’m sorry đ
Budapest Parliament Building
The next morning we bused over to the Parliament building in Budapest. Although it might seem lame, parliament buildings are generally one of the most preserved and prestigious buildings in a city.
Thermal Baths
That afternoon it was off for some relaxation in the local thermal baths, which are essential public pools filled with tourists and hairy Hungarian men. Yea, I know I didn’t make it sound too appealing but it was still a pretty cool experience. There was a mixture of hot, cold, indoor and outdoor pools as well as some spas and massage places.
Then that evening it was time for a fancy boat cruise along the Danube River complete with a buffet, wine, and an international DJ. Although it was really just one of the guys on our tour who had a mixing board, regardless it sounded great!
Oh hey look, it’s Parliament again! Craziness.

You look great, Nadine! It’s a shame you can’t sample much of the local cuisine
Hey there, kisses from Budapest! đ It’s so good and strange to see my hometown in your video, feels like I’m a tourist đ Next time you’re here you must try our cuisine with all the spices and the sour cream and the meat (no wonder why all Hungarians are fat). Meat with meat.
You’re very inspiring, hope I’ll get the chance to travel like you do! đ
SzĂŠp napot! đ (Have a nice day!)
