Croatian Island Hopping

I do apologize for titling this post Croatian Island Hopping, since there really is only one island I am taking about in this post: Brac. Where in my last post, I featured the islands of Korcula and Hvar.

So, a little fact about Croatian island hopping, to get to and from the islands via public transit you need to take the catamaran ferries, and in the shoulder season, aka September, the only ferries are at 6:00am. So prepare yourself for this, cause it sucks. You must be at the docks by 5:15am to ensure a ticket to get on the boat, then you end up arriving at your destination around 7:30am ish and you can’t check into your hostel till 11am at the earliest.

Bol - Brac, Croatia

Welcome to the town of Bol on the island of Brac:ย the windy, beach resort and adrenaline junkie Croatian island.

Famous for its triangular beach, Zlatni Rat, Bol is home to those famous round white pebbles that result in spectacularly clean water and beaches. A big change from the sandy beaches of Australia and the Caribbean.

Split

After our island adventures were complete we made our way back to the coast and spent some time in Croatia’s coastal capital, Split. Home to the ruined ancient Roman Palace of the Emperoro Diocletian, this second largest city in Croatia is full of great beaches, atmosphere, culture and cliff jumping!

Zagreb

Our last stop in Croatia was Zagreb, the capital city. We hadn’t originally planned to stop here but our 1 hour train layover on our way to Slovenia turned into a 4 hour delay so we decided to go check out the town. There is a lot you can accomplish in 4 hours, so in our layover we enjoyed a vegan festival in the town centre, complete with live entertainment.

Took a strolled through the park, grabbed dinner and sipped on some coffee.

Oh Croatia, I hate to say goodbye. I have fallen in love with Croatia and I have no doubt that this lesser known country is one of the hottest up-incoming travel destinations.ย  Full of great beaches, food and architecture, Croatia has all you can desire from a Mediterranean European destination and more.
