Oh Halloween my favorite holiday of the year. Mainly cause I love dressing up in different costumes and outfits, although, I do that occasionally in videos as well …
So, in keeping with my Game of Thrones themed Halloween costumes (I did Daenerys Targaryen 2 years ago), this year I decided to create Melisandre of Asshai .

This outfit was significantly easier to do than Daenerys since I now own a sewing machine (yay) and I bought a medieval dress pattern from Fabricland. However, the actual sewing of the dress took FAR LONGER than I originally thought it would. There was a lot of material.

A good quality red wig is KEY. I added black gloves because my hands were cold and I thought they looked cool, although she doesn’t actually wear them.
For the sleeves I decided to do a different material because I wanted them to be flowing and long and I was worried the satin I used for the main parts of the dress would be far to bulky. I thought it worked out pretty well aside from a slight material amount error. I was a bit short and had to create a middle part in the arms, which isn’t incredibly noticeable, but it bothers me cause I would have preferred them to have been a single piece each.
Although not quite visible, I took the time to hem all the loose edges of the arms and bottom etc. I was trying to create something I could wear again and I’m a slight perfectionist. This was a tedious task.
I also was going to make the necklace piece but…got far to lazy.
All in all, I am pretty happy with the quality of how my dress turned out. What do you think?
-Next up, Margaery Tyrell! :P
Do you mind providing a link or name to the pattern that you got? Your work looks great!
Could you tell me where you found your wig? It looks amazing!
Your costume is gorgeous! Where did you find the wig? I’m looking for one like this but I can’t find one!
